21st June 2025 : Rissington

Today, Harvey had his second outing in a Club100 kart. A 60 strong field of Super Lightweight Cadets took to the track at Rissington for the latest round of the Club100 Southern Championship.

Club100 is the highest level of arrive and drive outdoor karting in the UK. One thing that is fantastic about the series is that its a level playing field for all drivers. It’s not about who’s got the money for the new tyres, a highly tuned engine, the latest chassis or best expert to setup their kart. Its ALL about the driver. Club 100 run 2 stroke Rotax karts, which have to be driven very differently from the 4 stroke Honda karts Harvey normally drives outdoors.

The day started with practice, followed by qualifying. Drivers are then split into three groups based on their qualifying time for the Pre-C, Pre-B, and Pre-A final. The top 2 drivers from Pre-C get promoted to the back of the grid for the Pre-B, and then the top 2 from Pre-B to Pre-A final.

After a splattering of rain for Harvey’s qualifying, Harvey still managed on a damp track to qualify near the front of group B. Just before the Pre-B final, the rain start to come down very heavily, leading to the wettest race of the day. With everyone running on slick tyres it really makes it challenging for the drivers. Harvey, however thrived in the changing conditions, using his knowledge to change up his lines and make use of the different parts of the track. He worked his way into the front two and worked smartly with the leader to ensure promotion to the Pre-A final.

During the Pre-A final, as the track dryed, Harvey made a number of smart moves and drove through the field from 20th to finish 11th. During the A-Final, Harvey managed to work further through the field finishing 6th overall and claiming the Rookie of the Day award for the highest placed Rookies.

“I felt really good in the kart at Rissington, It’s the first time I have driven the track in real life, and I had pace and was constantly setting fast laptimes. Overall, a very good race day!”

While it was Harvey’s first visit to the track, he has used his race sim to practice ahead of the event. It’s the second time this year he has driven a new track and achieved podium finishes based on experience built online.
