Let’s Get This Started 🏁

Welcome to the first post in a brand-new blog series where we’ll be looking back at Harvey Ball’s 2025 racing season, one month at a time.

The aim is simple: share the highs, the lessons, the graft behind the scenes, and give a proper look at what racing life is like across a full year. Whether you’re deep into karting or just getting to know Harvey and his journey, this series is for you.

If you like what you read, make sure you follow Harvey onFacebook, Instagram and YouTube — race updates, photos, and behind-the-scenes moments will be shared there alongside these blogs.

Now, let’s get into it 👇

First Race of the Year, Straight Into the Fire

The 2025 season kicked off on 26 January at Bayford Meadows, with Harvey lining up for his first race in Honda 200, and his first race on a new chassis. New year, new class, and straight onto a BM plate — no easing into things.

Bayford Meadows is never an easy place to start a season, especially if it’s only your second visit to the track!! Tight racing, committed drivers, and plenty of local knowledge from the home club teams mean you have to be switched on from the first lap of the day. Add in the fact that this was Harvey’s first competitive outing of the year, and it was always going to be a proper test.

From the moment the day got going, the pace was there. (Harvey had been practicing on his sim at home)

Race Day Vibes & How It Played Out

The grids were stacked, with strong entries from Project One — the local home club team — along with drivers who regularly race in the top 10 of the Wera Tools British Karting Championships. In other words, this wasn’t a gentle warm-up race.

Across the heats and finals, Harvey stayed consistent, kept his head down, and focused on clean, smart racing. No unnecessary risks, no drama — just doing the job lap after lap.

By the end of the day, that approach paid off.

And this wasn’t a “quiet” fifth. Harvey beat most of the Project One home drivers on their own circuit and finished ahead of several drivers who compete at the sharp end of British Karting nationally. That’s a strong statement to open the season.

The day was especially eventful as the track racing was paused after the Cadet final due to the sudden rainstorm that flooded the track!

Why This Result Matters

Results early in the year don’t define a season — but they do set the tone.

Stepping into Honda 200, and immediately being competitive against high-level opposition shows that the winter work is paying off. More importantly, it shows confidence, race craft, and the ability to perform under pressure.

There’s still plenty to improve (there always is), but starting the year with a solid, competitive result like this gives momentum — and momentum matters.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming weeks and months, this blog series will cover:

  • Different tracks and competitions
  • The good days and the tough ones
  • Progress through the season
  • What it really takes to compete at this level

Each post will break down a month of racing and tell the story behind the result — not just the finishing position.
