Grit, Getaways & Keeping It Fun 🏁

August was a mixed month. Some tough racing, a bit of head-scratching in the paddock, but also reminders of why we do this in the first place. Not every month delivers trophies — some deliver lessons, memories, holidays, and momentum of a different kind.

Sunday 3 August – Forest Edge

A Tough Day, But No Quitting

The first Sunday of August brought another trip to Forest Edge, and this one was hard work from the outset.

Engine issues blighted the entire day. The top end had dropped, and no matter what we tried, we couldn’t fully get on top of the problem. Without a second engine to swap in, the only option was to keep going and make the best of it.

The heats were a real grind:

  • Heat 1: Started P9, finished P18
  • Heat 2: Started P13, finished P9
  • Heat 3: Started P1, finished P8

Despite everything, Harvey kept pushing and stayed focused. Starting near the back of the final, things finally swung our way when the rain started to fall — and that changed everything.

In the wet, Harvey came alive as engine top end became less of an issue.

Driving superbly through the field, he charged from P12 to P5, gaining more positions than any other driver in the final. On a day where results could easily have gone the other way, that drive showed resilience, confidence, and real race craft with a never quit attitude.

School Holidays – Racing Never Really Stops

August also meant school holidays, with time spent away from the track — including a trip to Eastbourne to watch Airbourne, and catching up with family.

That said… even on holiday, Harvey still wants to kart.

While staying with his grandparents, we squeezed in a Race League night at TeamSport Brighton. It’s always good to try new tracks and race against drivers who know the layout inside out.

On his first visit to the circuit, Harvey put in a brilliant qualifying lap to line up P2 for the final, and then brought it home P2, finishing one place ahead of Dylan B — a name we’d see again later at the BIKC National Finals.

A great night, and proof that adaptability travels well. Driving new venues us a great way to keep sharp and focus the mind.

End of August – Fulbeck

Fun, Friends & Flat-Out Running

The final day of August wrapped things up back at Fulbeck, with an end-of-season social at the track alongside the NRD team from NATSKA.

It was a relaxed day, but still a valuable one. Harvey had the chance to run the R200 (a faster Inter category engine) on the Honda chassis, showing great speed even on a cheap set of second-hand Mojo tyres. The plan had been to practice ahead of the Honda Festival, but unfortunately, that got cancelled last minute due to numbers in the other categories. Gutted, as the pace was fantastic!

More importantly, it was an opportunity to share the circuit with drivers he wouldn’t normally race alongside, enjoy the atmosphere, and just go flat-out without pressure. The most fun was enjoying the chance to have fun on slicks in the wet thanks to a short rain shower near the end of the day.

Plenty of laughs, plenty of laps — and yes, the ice creams were back in the fridge.

BIKC Qualification Complete!

August also saw a few trips back to Team Sport Farnborough to complete the required sessions to qualify for the BIKC Local Championships. Farnborough was one of the busiest clubs in the country, with over 60 cadet drivers setting qualifying times. Only the top 20 receive an invitation back for the local finals – Mission complete!

August in Perspective

August may not have been about a lot of results, but it delivered:

  • A tough race day handled with resilience
  • Big gains in difficult conditions
  • Racing squeezed into the school holidays
  • New tracks, new friendships and new rivals
  • And a reminder that fun still matters

The work doesn’t stop — and the season isn’t done yet.

Next up: September… and the final road to Warrington gets real with the BIKC Local finals and a search for a place at the regional finals.
